peas in a pod cake!

a little while back, my college friend kathy requested a set of peas in a pod (that's them on my blog header). a friend of hers liked them so much that she requested a set to give to her sister as a gift. she also asked kathy, who is a super talented cake baker/decorator, to create a cake to match and oh my goodness it's too cute! three little sugar peas in a pod! to see how she created this cake (and other amazing cakes) visit her blog sweet kat's creations.

banana zucchini bread with chocolate chips and walnuts

i know, it almost sounds like too much but i LOVE this bread. it's not overly sweet so i can snack on it all day long. super moist with a little crunch from the nuts... <3 make a loaf for the weekend and i promise it'll make you happy. the recipe is by noshings and can be found here.

pound cake + berries

freshly baked pound cake is a glorious thing.  especially when it's paired with fresh berries.  the berries make it healthy, right?

peanut butter cookie + nutella

make some cookies using this peanut butter cookie recipe courtesy of bake or break,

and find a jar of delicious nutella,

spread some nutella on a cookie,

squish another cookie on top,

bake it pretty!

bake it pretty held a contest to name their new dashing dot baking cups and the winner would receive a set of the new baking cups and a grab bag full of surprises.  i was shocked to find out that they chose my suggestion!  *^_^*  my name was "lah dee dot".  get it?  like "lah dee dah"?  i envisioned myself skipping through a field of beautiful cupcakes.  i got my prize in the mail last weekend and it was like receiving a box of joy.  i've ordered from bake it pretty in the past so i knew that i was getting great stuff but i really loved the surprise grab bag!

yay!  polka dot baking cups!  these look very '80s don't they?  my sister actually wore a dress that looked like that pink one in our cousin's wedding.

i couldn't believe how much fun stuff was crammed into this little bag.

when did cupcakes get so popular? there's even a whole separate section just for cupcakes on the martha stewart website. maybe i'll make some cupcakes this weekend. it's been raining for about two weeks straight so i'm sure everyone could use a cupcake. and i've already made plans to whip up a batch of these for miss n's going away beach party :)

I had a productive weekend... job hunted, walked a few miles, ran some errands, but most importantly... i made chocolate chip cookies :)

i love cupcakes!!

Bakerella this is the most beautiful blog in the world! Bakerella is a genius. seriously, look at these bunnies... hysterical! i'm especially liking that little one peaking out from behind his mama. i just spent an embarassing amount of time looking through her blog archives :P this puts me in a baking mood... but it's super hot again in boston and i'm pretty sure that if i turn on the oven the building will melt.

holy heatwave! my favorite weather is about 60-70 degrees. once you hit 80, it's too hot for me... so 100 is simply madness! thankfully it's supposed to get cooler as the week goes on. poor waukegan... she must be so hot in her fur coat. lucky for her she's going through her yearly shed. but that leaves me to chase her around with a lint roller trying to catch it all before it flies all over the apartment.

"oh hi... can i come out now?" some shop news... pies and cakes! these two are in the shop. there are more on their way :)
